I will probably update it more when my kids are in school or I have more computer time to myself in the daylight. I'm a nocturnal illustrator and a diurnal (a word I learned from "Wild Kratts" or "Go Diego Go") mommy of two very active boys.<br />
<br />
But - If you would like to see current personal work or just an artistic update from me on the regular, follow my Instagram account. Search "caliwardart" - @caliwardart. It is my social media of choice and I love to interact with fellow artists and potential clients there. Not too many followers yet... I think I'm going to do a portrait giveaway while I don't have any illustrations jobs on the table... COMING 2016!<br />

Mother being my full time occupation that gives me all the joy, love, frustration, irritation, tests of patience, and complete fulfillment all rolled into one. In May I was approached through avenues of Wendy Lynn & Co. to illustrate a book for a young couple and their one year old son. "Jakee" was the star of the book and is featured in this 32 page picture book with every letter of the alphabet doing his favorite thing that coordinates with that letter. It's a very special book for a very special boy. His parents are going to pursue publishing, and I will be very excited to let people know if and when they can get their copies.<br />

I love the projects that I've been blessed to work on over the past year. Two books, no publishers, a bit of money, but a lot of fun.<br />
<br />

This project was seriously fun. It is the product of a lot of work and collaboration with <a href="http://martynemko.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Marty Nemko</a>, the author. It is still in the process of finding the right publisher. Hoping it will see print in the bear future.<br />
<br />
This is the current book I'm working on, and this is only a sneak peak of what I'm doing.<br />

<br />
This book is nearing completion. I've had the cutest model to work with and love the process of working with the sweet couple from Ohio and painting their little boy.<br />

The life of a mom is a busy one. Not spending every spare second I have drawing gives me illustrator-guilt. Not cleaning and meal planning and exercising gives me wife-guilt. And wanting my, now plural, children to take synchronized naps, go to bed early, and play by themselves gives me Mom-Guilt!!!<br />
<br />
I have a new exciting job in the works, so hopefully it spures some creativity and beautiful images. I am hoping also that my brand new 27" beauty in front of me encourages me to blog more. I think I need to delete my family blog... that only adds more stress and guilt.Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-23507096280838454072012-10-21T19:53:00.000-07:002012-10-21T19:55:15.207-07:00Story time.... or not<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, I just want to start out by saying that this illustration was inspired by a sweet little story by Jill Miller, of St. Anthony. She was looking for an illustrator and contacted me, but went another way. Unfortunately, I won't be doing the illustrations for her book, but I was fortunate enough to read the story and I couldn't get this character out of my head. I'd drawn a rough sketch before finding out that the job was not mine, and I felt like I just needed to get it out of my system. This was an ink sketch that I through some water color on top of and then messed around on my iPad today in SketchPro. Looking at it now, I'd do more if it was a commissioned piece, but today it was just for fun.<br />
<br />
Thanks Jill for inspiring a cute little drawing. Good luck with your book! I think the story is adorable! <br />
This is one of my favorites from my latest job. It is exciting to be working as a freelance illustrator. It comes with deadlines, late nights, and plenty of trips to grandmas' houses to help with the muchkin, but so worth the satisfactions once finished. Tight deadlines can drive a person crazy, some pieces get more time than others, so in turn, some are rushed and you can fuss and fuss over little things, but sometimes you just have to let it be. <br />
<br />
I really need to update my website. Maybe I can do that now that I have finished this job. It's not the exact storyline of the Disney classic we all know and love, but a shorter version created for early readers. It is a small chapter book featuring<span style="font-size:180%;"> 11</span> illustrations done by <span style="font-size:180%;">yours truely! <span style="font-size:100%;"><br /><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicV6Fcfo_3F4t5ksazLwheG25dKKSPUXUxuqv5AhNPhy30ILlDnelMdnYTJBMtT3JNhL2u_uaSHa3a2UULkkrqR0RdvXCCz5iyR9Us9KlF8z9aKIX340379eNwDKAxGDYkNJBqyFZYdiDe/s1600/Pollyanna.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicV6Fcfo_3F4t5ksazLwheG25dKKSPUXUxuqv5AhNPhy30ILlDnelMdnYTJBMtT3JNhL2u_uaSHa3a2UULkkrqR0RdvXCCz5iyR9Us9KlF8z9aKIX340379eNwDKAxGDYkNJBqyFZYdiDe/s400/Pollyanna.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5664649945022954626" border="0" /></a><br />I don't know how much I can really share, but I figured a small sampling wouldn't hurt. It was an exciting project, and though it sucked up every spare minute aside from my 9-5, I really enjoyed it. Thanks to my fabulous models for helping me with photo references! No excuses! Okay, just one.... I've been busy. Though there has been a lack of posting, there has not been a lack of painting. Most exciting of news, I'm now represented by <a href="http://www.wendylynn.com/">Wendy Lynn & Co.</a> Check out my portfolio on their website.I'll have new posts soon, my deadline is coming up and hopefully I'll be able to share some of what I've been working on. I was very excited to get a illustration job soon after signing with them. I'm excited at the chance to expand my portfolio and share my talent.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhijNuaQpVb49hvOg0DIuUHXbLovehixk1cJPaKBYnYuxEZquq8Y2bF0K3QFwuXHirZsx-4hulX0DB-VhyIV21SNGYXixvDwaaWW9IySs6IZT4giBzSn-KBLKhOH0ufmQs0TdpLuTvbEZcZ/s1600/WendyLynn.jpg"><br /></a>Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-41256973156025916822011-07-14T17:37:00.000-07:002011-07-14T17:45:12.067-07:00My Nephew's Baptism<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4S1M9Yz58I6la4hD9M4CJ6cVy6o1Tbi0k3Nrua3Ic5IYU_dNTYtVgkhj713bQDgKa82YG9tv4ymeqi-qDbDadbZ9AR1UTATD8bPy-jjnh-RVRU6osW0aWNLpFfukx_h66XlQb6-zxiGpP/s1600/Jensen%2527s-Baptism.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4S1M9Yz58I6la4hD9M4CJ6cVy6o1Tbi0k3Nrua3Ic5IYU_dNTYtVgkhj713bQDgKa82YG9tv4ymeqi-qDbDadbZ9AR1UTATD8bPy-jjnh-RVRU6osW0aWNLpFfukx_h66XlQb6-zxiGpP/s400/Jensen%2527s-Baptism.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5629371993794614754" border="0" /></a>My lovely sister-in-law asked me to design an invitation/announcement for her son's baptism coming up next month. I'm pleased with how my little illustration turned out. It's got enough likeness of my nephew. He's actually a pretty good little artist himself and he's been asking me while he's in town to do another "art lesson". We're headed to Colorado for the weekend and a Rockies game on Monday - so I'll get these printed for them before we head out. If anyone cares to know, Office Max actually has a good printing department and very inexpensive. I like to print on their white or creme linen paper then stack onto another piece of colored cardstock for simple invitations like this.Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-1560149005963899512011-07-11T21:35:00.000-07:002011-07-11T21:46:49.784-07:00Summer Lovin<div style="text-align: center;"><br /><span style="font-size:180%;"><span style="color: rgb(153, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;">I love summer!</span></span> One of my favorite things about summer is Bear Lake. At least that's how I like to imagine monkeys... fact is, the only monkey I've ever met/seen is at Mckee's Pet Shop and it's a mean old thing! It scrunches its nose at you and looks like its cussing you out. But that's beside the point.... this is about a cute little monkey invitation to a baby shower! <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Tn2OMH-0kxK3WnUN0EnYnqpQmlNswAKGf30G9Kzuoz-MUjqWdvw9husdVraffbTRZt5Q2a8oZZmno8lJeErtUrQCcgaIQ0QoKiSdmQn63EDVVWtQETKMxitux3oIvFl-RVOMK3Qdd-BT/s1600/P1020572.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Tn2OMH-0kxK3WnUN0EnYnqpQmlNswAKGf30G9Kzuoz-MUjqWdvw9husdVraffbTRZt5Q2a8oZZmno8lJeErtUrQCcgaIQ0QoKiSdmQn63EDVVWtQETKMxitux3oIvFl-RVOMK3Qdd-BT/s400/P1020572.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613415963795337458" border="0" /></a><br />My sister-in-law is due in July and we're having a shower for her soon. I try to post regularly with my <a href="http://www.illustrationfriday.com/">Illustration Friday</a> stuff, but I like to expand my creative facets. I've done a little bit of traditional painting, fun crafty projects, some spray painting projects, and even some quilting! Check them out:<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnayg_bJBih-FP4glyz2YyC40Pp6EzbWuWItC-D3im4VdOZq3nlTyC2TTTnIIsfeGhAZ7kwod_wBPlfYgapin-CgHYm9zZ0T5YHv3ykX_E_8qrHDs0FYULM92iwI-YXDRgt8WRCGgFTPOI/s1600/Charish%2527s+Modern+Stripes+.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnayg_bJBih-FP4glyz2YyC40Pp6EzbWuWItC-D3im4VdOZq3nlTyC2TTTnIIsfeGhAZ7kwod_wBPlfYgapin-CgHYm9zZ0T5YHv3ykX_E_8qrHDs0FYULM92iwI-YXDRgt8WRCGgFTPOI/s400/Charish%2527s+Modern+Stripes+.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599717656232606146" border="0" /></a>This is a set of paintings I did for my friend Charish. She has a very modern and colorful style! (and as you can see from the toys at the lower corner, an adorable baby boy!)<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYw9cyutIFfMAtM3mrDuWPr_GGqfW6baz-USGUZjKOq6YMC5VAV7zDL1ab3fwG3L-t3qI302thyphenhyphenBNlN5H2I7jzUqQckiP-oQs9pFxE85hI7jy3YBw2ky9_T0mhK-h4ZpVz4Tw0ov6SkqVe/s1600/Five-Pears-for-Paige.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 321px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYw9cyutIFfMAtM3mrDuWPr_GGqfW6baz-USGUZjKOq6YMC5VAV7zDL1ab3fwG3L-t3qI302thyphenhyphenBNlN5H2I7jzUqQckiP-oQs9pFxE85hI7jy3YBw2ky9_T0mhK-h4ZpVz4Tw0ov6SkqVe/s400/Five-Pears-for-Paige.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599718307104863986" border="0" /></a>This is a painting I just finished - it's still drying - for my friend Paige. She has a pear themed bathroom and apparently couldn't find a pear painting. This is an original that won't be found in stores! This would also make a great kitchen painting.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-nw1PpHWfzP0pLbpjsVKsNgPcvfNDxP99JhDg2f9rdyB0FhhTqanXhWTtlovmKZZXn1-YMe-uns-jdNZ3rE1qGmRhXX6nZ8jBQ57Bq7aH44xmFYH0cGUF8vdcsWDenz1vzOXsRQyIVGvG/s1600/wreath.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-nw1PpHWfzP0pLbpjsVKsNgPcvfNDxP99JhDg2f9rdyB0FhhTqanXhWTtlovmKZZXn1-YMe-uns-jdNZ3rE1qGmRhXX6nZ8jBQ57Bq7aH44xmFYH0cGUF8vdcsWDenz1vzOXsRQyIVGvG/s400/wreath.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599722120994087554" border="0" /></a>I made this wreath for my Mom's birthday. This one was a doosie! 25-30 hours of TV and travel time making those small yarn pom-poms. This is on my door, but it looks very cute with the contrasting colors of her brick house. I did it after my friend Emily made one, and I'm pretty sure she got the idea from Studio 5. See the tutorial <a href="http://studio5.ksl.com/index.php?nid=61&sid=9550190">here.</a><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim1dsNgg38xRLNkroOJMu2HdGDZb-CtFRu3jKhqATsax7njIG2B1z7BxuxaM78Vf7qjO4gSkUJz6qg425jZXhWvbTCwUuXUbSjJ48Be5J4WOCCEH7SdzS1oEccJDeZvBFTdoiqHF_KGdac/s1600/P1020547.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim1dsNgg38xRLNkroOJMu2HdGDZb-CtFRu3jKhqATsax7njIG2B1z7BxuxaM78Vf7qjO4gSkUJz6qg425jZXhWvbTCwUuXUbSjJ48Be5J4WOCCEH7SdzS1oEccJDeZvBFTdoiqHF_KGdac/s400/P1020547.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599724821961910786" border="0" /></a>Here's where the magic happens! Just finished the pear painting. Now I better finish that work in progress on the floor. I have one more commissioned painting to do for friends from Utah - to bad it's not done already because their coming to visit this weekend.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIIiByETx7FliNmvcuL0LT57GGK4VA5hw1x3v2Z2Am2HV2TMCLXW6UBwD_1ejUxwRJloW2BAOuiIkAWkNwuBaw-8DBbhl72Qe_PIJ2MDjNT1PaTXhyphenhyphenHeL2Vq6R6ACgOsfm1NHBNp9ztYEP/s1600/P1020550.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 285px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIIiByETx7FliNmvcuL0LT57GGK4VA5hw1x3v2Z2Am2HV2TMCLXW6UBwD_1ejUxwRJloW2BAOuiIkAWkNwuBaw-8DBbhl72Qe_PIJ2MDjNT1PaTXhyphenhyphenHeL2Vq6R6ACgOsfm1NHBNp9ztYEP/s400/P1020550.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5599726525763676946" border="0" /></a>One more - this is my cute little chair. I love chairs! I spray painted this a week or so ago. I'm obsessed with this pea-green color right now. This is one if the little quilts & pillows I've made recently too. Fun to have projects! They keep my creative urges satisfied!Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-300656311276143422011-04-09T23:22:00.000-07:002011-04-09T23:30:01.913-07:00IF - Bottled<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKMXwoGFbzGFazgbHT81HKUks5ckBDbOYesFRddotR8C9VfsX3_UYtLYTQAqLIh3zi3TuPORViGlCxF78rKdpkOdbTx8GWCrZbvY61LjGUTtvkDJhamyOxBzpCKzSPdPbFZh8PHesZatH/s1600/IF-Yoga.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 257px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKMXwoGFbzGFazgbHT81HKUks5ckBDbOYesFRddotR8C9VfsX3_UYtLYTQAqLIh3zi3TuPORViGlCxF78rKdpkOdbTx8GWCrZbvY61LjGUTtvkDJhamyOxBzpCKzSPdPbFZh8PHesZatH/s400/IF-Yoga.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5593838385888220610" border="0" /></a><br />Illustration Friday's theme this week is "Bottled". The first thing I thought is bottling up your emotions. So - in my best yoga instructor voice - Eh-Hem! "Feeling strong... feeling powerful... release all negativity... breath in goodness... release all anger & frustration... breath in happiness... Namaste!"Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-65902458702284910702011-04-07T20:24:00.000-07:002011-04-07T20:26:33.019-07:00Duet<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvkU7c9fV6QtO6IX4Wbpj0q7qeIMy70JqVB4gxEVgaJMQzlrnkKJOY_woHAz2N51uDcE8S16zHWoG2GGdcHM6_DzQf7dp3BkBfAxnW0KSwEJcUBbKSrkLrP4FzjhBxEJmXLqEv_63VQVmF/s1600/duet.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 288px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvkU7c9fV6QtO6IX4Wbpj0q7qeIMy70JqVB4gxEVgaJMQzlrnkKJOY_woHAz2N51uDcE8S16zHWoG2GGdcHM6_DzQf7dp3BkBfAxnW0KSwEJcUBbKSrkLrP4FzjhBxEJmXLqEv_63VQVmF/s400/duet.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5593048944656873874" border="0" /></a><br />It's a last minute sketch to get into the Illustration Friday topic before it changes tomorrow morning. I, myself, like to experiment with the paint on the canvas, unless I'm feeling expecially conservative. Hope you like this little curtsy-girl, she's kinda like the Disney Princess version of me.Calistahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07772374354458089630noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4854167346880743486.post-63299923678520539012011-03-08T20:20:00.001-08:002011-03-08T20:28:16.017-08:00Monday Artday<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7jHEAUQDhpyA6bph_Ft12n3ECYxCkGCAqfIB7mAQuGCLS7vh9GMq9JEy2OV5KawWI7esne-PMHE88zTpBDYdcQSnkX-vM9FJV2gRLDgQG6-jC4CANTMJwhQF785PV9QuWvQDQs69_7Wj/s1600/monday.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7jHEAUQDhpyA6bph_Ft12n3ECYxCkGCAqfIB7mAQuGCLS7vh9GMq9JEy2OV5KawWI7esne-PMHE88zTpBDYdcQSnkX-vM9FJV2gRLDgQG6-jC4CANTMJwhQF785PV9QuWvQDQs69_7Wj/s400/monday.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581931963331238754" border="0" /></a>I just posted for the first time on Monday Artday.
